Patient Privacy
Your health data,
protected by law.
Alberta clinics operate under the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). BC clinics operate under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Both govern how we collect, store, retain, and share your information — and you have specific rights under both. Here's a plain-language summary.
What We Collect
The categories of information we keep
All of it serves treatment, billing, or legal record-keeping. None of it is sold or shared with marketing partners.
Health Information
Dental and medical history, current medications, allergies, your treatment plan, clinical notes, and any imaging or scans we capture during your case.
Digital Scans
Intraoral scans are stored on encrypted systems so we can reproduce or modify your prosthetic in future — without re-scanning.
Identifying Information
Your name, date of birth, contact details, and government health number — required for charting and legally mandated record-keeping.
Insurance & Billing
Insurance plan details, CDCP coverage, and billing history — used for pre-determinations, direct billing, and your patient receipt.
Consent Records
Signed treatment-plan consent forms and any opt-in/opt-out choices you've recorded with us.
What We Don't Collect
Marketing tracking data on patient pages is minimal and anonymized. We don't profile patients for advertising.
Your Rights
What you can ask us to do.
Under both PHIA and PIPA, you have the right to access your records, request a correction, ask who has accessed them, and place restrictions on how the information is used or shared. These are not favours we grant — they are legal rights.
Request access. Ask any MyBite denturist or call 1-833-MyBite-1 and we will arrange a copy of your records within the legally required timeframe (usually 30 days). Standard administrative fees may apply for large or complex requests.
Request a correction. If something in your record is wrong — your address, a treatment note, a billing entry — tell us and we will correct it.
Audit access. You can ask for a log of who has viewed your record at any MyBite clinic in the past two years.
Withdraw consent. You can withdraw consent for specific uses (for example, sharing your file with a referring dentist) at any time. Some withdrawals affect what care we can provide — we will explain the implications honestly.
How We Protect It
Encrypted, audited, retained per regulation.
Patient records are stored on encrypted systems with audited access. Only staff directly involved in your care can open your chart, and every access leaves a trail.
Digital scans, treatment plans, billing records, and case notes are retained for the period required by college and provincial regulation — typically ten years past your last visit, or longer for minors. After that, records are securely destroyed.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with marketing partners. We share it only with practitioners directly involved in your care (and only with your consent), with insurers for billing you've authorized, and with regulators or law enforcement where legally required.
If we ever experience a privacy breach affecting your record, we are legally obligated to notify you. We will.
Privacy at MyBite — what patients ask
Only MyBite staff directly involved in your care — typically your denturist, your treatment coordinator, and a billing administrator. Every access is logged and auditable.

Yes. Ask any MyBite denturist or call 1-833-MyBite-1. We will arrange a copy within the legally required timeframe (usually 30 days). Standard administrative fees may apply for large requests.

Tell us. Under PHIA and PIPA you have the right to request a correction, and we will make it. If there's a disagreement about the correction, we will record your version of events alongside ours.
Speak to any MyBite denturist or call 1-833-MyBite-1. If we can't resolve your concern, you can escalate to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (oipc.ab.ca) or British Columbia (oipc.bc.ca).
