Partial Dentures

Founding Denturists: Erin Derraugh and Wade Klimpke

Tooth Loss is not Irreparable

Your bite is a complex puzzle that quickly loses strength and stability if a tooth is missing. For this reason, it’s vital to replace any missing teeth quickly before the pressures of chewing and talking cause your existing teeth to shift and misalign your bite.

At MyBite, we specialize in designing partial dentures that seamlessly blend in with your natural teeth. A removable partial denture will also protect your bite by correctly cushioning your mouth from normal wear and tear.

Don’t let the absence of one or more missing teeth negatively impact your bite functionality, how you feel about yourself, and how you interact with others.

About Partial Dentures

What are Partial Dentures?

Like complete dentures, partial dentures are removable, prosthetic teeth. However, while complete dentures replace all of your teeth, partial dentures only replace one or more missing teeth.

Typically made from acrylic material and a metal framework that attaches to your natural teeth for support, upper partial dentures are flesh-coloured and cover a portion of the roof of your mouth, similar to a retainer. Lower partial dentures are open in the middle to allow room for your tongue.

Who is a Good Candidate for Partial Dentures?

Partial dentures are a great solution for people who:

  • Are missing one or more teeth
  • Require a highly customizable tooth replacement solution
  • Want a removable option for easy cleaning
  • Have budgetary constraints, as partial dentures are typically more cost-effective than bridges or implants.

Our Partial Denture Package Options

At MyBite, our in-house lab and experienced technicians allow us to customize partial denture solutions personalized to you. Not every mouth is the same – therefore, your custom partial implant will be unique as you are. Some of our partial denture package options include:

Conventional partial dentures

Conventional partial dentures are typically made using a combination of metal, acrylic, and resin.

The base, or frame, is made using acrylic or resin, into which the artificial teeth are inserted. The lightweight precision-fit frame provides a strong base for acrylic teeth and gums and does not cover up as much of your oral tissue. Titanium frame partial dentures tend to be most biocompatible with the oral tissues. These partial dentures are held in place by small metal devices that attach to your existing teeth.

Ask us about the many designs available, some of which have no visible clasps and are virtually undetectable.

Thermoplastic or flexible partial dentures

Some people find conventional partial dentures are too loose or uncomfortable to wear, particularly when eating. Others cannot tolerate an alloy or cast partial denture.

In these cases, we can supply you with flexible partial dentures. Designed to accommodate angled teeth, flexible partial dentures will fit perfectly with the parts of your mouth that many conventional hard plastic base dentures cannot. By working closely with the unique shape of your mouth, we will help you achieve a well-fitting, stable denture.

Because of the flexible fit, no metal clasps are required, making them completely metal-free. Flexible partial dentures look completely natural in your mouth and do not require denture adhesive to keep them in place.

Dental flipper

A dental flipper is typically for short-term use because it tends to flip or move around in the mouth. This can cause discomfort and make dental flippers unsuitable for chewing. Despite the drawbacks, the dental flipper is quick to produce, lightweight, and cost-effective. They are typically fabricated to replace teeth right after extractions as a temporary solution before a permanent tooth replacement solution is completed.

Partial Dentures: Our Process

1

Consultation

The partial denture process begins with a thorough examination of your mouth and an in-depth discussion of your dental needs. This includes discussing our package options and process in detail so you know exactly what to expect from your partial denture.

2

Dental Impressions

We will take full dental impressions, measurements, and bite moulds to create a fitted partial denture customized to your mouth.

3

Colouring & Shape

Using your existing teeth as a guide, we will select the shape and colour of your partial denture, so it matches your natural teeth as closely as possible.

4

Construction

Using your dental impressions, moulds, measurements, and colour and shape selections, our in-house laboratory will customize your partial denture using the latest technologies.

5

Fittings

Once your partial denture is crafted and ready to be fit, we will gently fit it into your mouth and make all necessary adjustments to ensure the most natural and comfortable fit.

6

Care & Cleaning

Once your partial denture is fit and you are fully satisfied, we will discuss care and cleaning. Partial dentures, like natural teeth, require daily brushing and flossing to prevent a build-up of stains and tartar. Your partial denture should be taken out every night and stored in clean water. Note: never store in hot or boiling water, as this can warp your denture.

Frequently Asked Questions:

HOW LONG WILL MY PARTIAL DENTURE LAST?

While it depends on the type of partial denture package you choose, most partial denture appliances last anywhere from 5-8 years. The need for a new partial denture appliance depends on wear and tear as well as how much your bone and gum ridges change shape or shrink over time.

WILL MY PARTIAL DENTURE NEED ADJUSTING?

ypically your partial dentures should not require frequent adjustments. However, if your bone or gums recede or if your bite is altered for any reason, we will adjust your partial denture accordingly.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO GET USED TO MY PARTIAL DENTURES?

It typically takes a few days to a few weeks for new denture wearers to get fully comfortable. In the beginning, the mouth must become accustomed to them, and there could be some initial discomfort. We will work with you through this transition period to ensure your partial dentures are fit to your complete satisfaction.

WILL PARTIAL DENTURES AFFECT MY SPEECH?

At first, speaking with your partial dentures may be challenging. You may find speech is difficult, and your speech is somewhat altered. However, within a week or so, your mouth will become accustomed, and your speech will return to normal.

WILL IT BE DIFFICULT TO EAT WITH PARTIAL DENTURES?

We recommend eating soft foods, such as soup or mashed potatoes, the first few meals after your dentures are fit. Try eating more solid food as it becomes comfortable to chew. This could take up to 2-5 days.

CAN I SLEEP WITH MY PARTIAL DENTURES?

We recommend taking your partial dentures out when you sleep to give your gum tissue and remaining teeth a rest.

Most Popular Treatments

We offer many payment plans and options that make your treatment quite affordable at low monthly rates. If your credit score is average or even slightly below, we can help you apply online with a third-party financing company, and you’ll receive an instant decision in most cases. This pre-qualifying approach is a “soft” credit check. If you don’t qualify, some patients tap a friend, family member, or spouse to co-sign with them for financing. Other alternative options may also be available to you.
