About Complete Dentures

Complete dentures, also known as full dentures, are a full set of removable, artificial teeth and gums that replace lost or extracted natural teeth.

Separate from partial dentures, which replace only a few missing teeth, complete dentures are a complete top or bottom teeth replacement solution.

Complete dentures are custom-moulded to fit your gum line and the bone ridges in your mouth. They are typically affixed in place via natural suction, however, a dental adhesive may also be used to keep your dentures secure.

Two Types of Complete Dentures

At MyBite, we create and fit two types of complete dentures: immediate and conventional.

If you are having teeth extracted, your gums must heal before your permanent set of dentures – called conventional dentures – can be fitted. This is where immediate dentures come in: they are fitted immediately – bridging the time gap between tooth removal and permanent dentures so you aren’t without teeth for an extended period of time.

Before your natural teeth are removed, our denturists will create custom moulds of your mouth to design and create your immediate dentures. As soon as your teeth are removed, the immediate dentures are fitted.

Depending on healing time, you may wear your immediate dentures for up to 8-12 weeks before you graduate to your conventional or permanent dentures.

The complete denture process begins with a thorough examination of your mouth and an in-depth discussion of your dental needs. This includes reviewing our package options and our entire process in detail, so you know what to expect from your new, complete dentures.

We will then take full dental impressions and bite moulds of your mouth to create a fitted denture tailored to you.

We will review colouring samples and shape options to determine the most natural look for you.

While our denture laboratory is creating your dentures, we will show you a wax model of what your final, complete dentures will look like. This gives you a visual of what you can expect to avoid any surprises.

Once your dentures are completed, we will fit them to your mouth, making all proper adjustments, so your dentures fit perfectly, and your bite alignment is intact. This will help ensure your dentures are secure and comfortable.

To prevent a buildup of stains, tartar, and food debris, dentures – like natural teeth – should be cleaned daily. We will discuss both brushing and soaking techniques and ongoing maintenance and care.
